| biography:
| Newspaper and periodical proprietor, born in Wookey, Somerset, SW England, UK. He studied at Winchester, and became a journalist, producing Pearson's Weekly in 1890, as well as various other periodicals. In 1900 he became associated with newspapers, founding the Daily Express, and amalgamating the St James Gazette with the Evening Standard. He established St Dunstan's home for blinded soldiers, and was president of the National Institution for the Blind. |
