| biography:
| British electronic engineer and inventor. He worked for three years as a publisher's editor before launching his electronics research and manufacturing company in 1962, which developed and successfully marketed a wide range of calculators, miniature television sets, and personal computers including the ZX-80, ZX-81, and ZX-Spectrum. He later embarked on the manufacture of a small three-wheeled ‘personal transport’ vehicle (1985), the C5, powered by a washing-machine motor and rechargeable batteries. It was widely condemned as unsafe and impractical, and its failure led to a period of retrenchment in Sinclair's business activities. He was knighted in 1983. |
