| biography:
| British politician, writer, broadcaster, and caterer. His training in London as a chef was interrupted by World War 2, and he was a liaison officer at the Nuremberg war crimes trials (1946) before completing his training in Cannes. He was the proprietor of the Royal Court Theatre Club (1952–62) and a columnist for various national newspapers before becoming a Liberal MP (1972–87). He is a long-serving member of the BBC Radio 4 Just a Minute team (from 1968), and has published a number of books about food, including The Gourmet's Tour of Great Britain and Ireland (1989). He was knighted in 1987. |
