| biography:
| Pioneer aviator, born in Melbourne, Victoria, NE Australia. He met Charles Kingsford Smith, and joined him in several aviation adventures and an unsuccessful business venture (1927–31). He carried the first airmail between Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea (1934). In December the same year, investigating the possibilities of regular airmail flights across the Pacific, he set out from California with two companions in his new twin-engine aircraft, but vanished without trace somewhere over the Hawaiian Is. |
