| Botanist, born in London, UK. He was professor at Oxford (1927–37), founded the precursor (1904) of the Ecological Society (1914), and was founder-editor of the New Phytologist (1902). A pioneer British ecologist, he published Practical Plant Ecology (1923) and The British Isles and their Vegetation (1939), and contributed to anatomical and morphological botany as well as to psychology. |
