| British soldier, born in Dublin, Ireland, the brother of Andrew Browne Cunningham. He trained at the Royal Military Academy, and served with distinction in World War 2. From Kenya in 1941 he struck through Italian Somaliland, and freed Abyssinia and British Somaliland from the Italians. He later served as high commissioner for Palestine (1945–8). |
