| Nigerian statesman and first federal prime minister (1957–66), born in Bauchi, C Nigeria. A member of the Northern People's Congress, he entered the Federal Assembly in 1947, was minister of works (1952–3) and of transport (1953–7), then became premier. He was knighted when Nigeria became independent in 1960, and was assassinated in the military uprising of 1966. |
