| Dutch general, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. An army officer in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI), after the fall of the NEI to the Japanese he joined General MacArthur's staff. In 1946 he was appointed lieutenant-general and commanded both police actions (1947, 1948) in Indonesia. He was promoted general in 1949. |
