| Holy Roman Emperor (1433), born in Nuremberg, SC Germany, the son of Emperor Karl IV and the last emperor of the House of Luxembourg. After his marriage to Maria of Hungary, he became King of Hungary (1387), German king (1411), King of Bohemia (1419), Lombard King (1431), and emperor (1433). He suffered defeat by the Turks at Nicopolis (1396), participated in the Hussite Wars in Bohemia, and was instrumental in settling the Western Schism. |
