| Poet and novelist, born in Brenchley, Kent, SE England, UK. World War 1, in which he served, gave him a hatred of war, fiercely expressed in his Counterattack (1918) and Satirical Poems (1926). He also wrote several semi-autobiographical works, such as Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man (1928). His later poetry was increasingly devotional, and he became a Catholic in 1957. |
