| biography:
| Poet, born in Marradi, NC Italy. His life was blighted by a serious mental illness which forced him to spend long periods of time in mental hospitals, where he eventually died. His work greatly influenced modern Italian poetry, and he is considered a forerunner of the Ermetismo movement. His Canti orfici (1914), a collection which combines verse and poetic prose, is characterized by an intensely lyrical style which elevates the everyday to a symbolic dimension. |
