| Writer, born in London, UK. He studied at Oxford, became an aeronautical engineer, and began to write novels in 1926. After World War 2, he emigrated to Australia, which became the setting for most of his later books, notably A Town Like Alice (1949) and On the Beach (1957), which were both made into successful films. He published his autobiography, Slide Rule, in 1954. |
