| Racing jockey and trainer, born in Fabens, Texas, USA. Only 149·8 cm/4 ft 11 in tall, and weighing 43 kg/95 lb, he won more races than any other jockey - nearly 9000 winners between 1949 and his retirement in 1989. In 1953 he rode a world record 485 winners in one season. He was severely injured in a car accident in 1991, but survived to become a trainer. |
