| Biological anthropologist, born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. He studied at Harvard, and taught at the universities of Columbia, Chicago, and California, Berkeley. A leading authority on primate and human evolution, he stressed the importance of field studies of primate behaviour for modelling the behaviour of extinct hominid forms. He was editor of Social Life of Early Man (1962) and numerous other publications. |
