| Catholic religious publisher and writer, born in Sydney, Australia. As a soapbox religious lecturer living in England, he married Maisie Ward and with her founded Sheed & Ward to publish high-quality Catholic books (1926). In 1940 the family settled in the USA, where a branch was established (the company was sold in 1973). A forceful apologist for Catholic doctrine, he wrote several books, most notably Theology and Sanity (1947). |
