| Poet, born in Konstantino (later renamed Yesenino in his honour), Russia. He left home at 17, and gained literary success with his first volume Radunitsa (1916, Mourning for the Dead). He was four times married (his third wife was Isadora Duncan), and his suicide in St Petersburg prompted a wave of imitative suicides in Russia. |
