| biography:
| French singer, born in Ismailia, Egypt. He was educated in Cairo, where he showed a talent for athletics, and later took refuge with his family in France. Influenced by Colette Dereál who sang ‘Surtout ne joue pas’, he went to Paris and gained an immediate success with ‘Belles, belles, belles’ (1962) which was to prove a lasting hit. Other songs of charm included ‘Si j'avais un marteau..’, ‘Comme d'habitude’, and ‘Viens à la maison’. His stage performances had a sense of spectacle and movement, surrounded by ‘fléchettes’ (female singers) and ‘clodettes’ (female dancers). He established his own record label called Flèche, his own record companies, and marketed a brand of perfume ‘Eau Noire’. He died accidentally, electrocuted in his home. |
