| biography:
| French entertainer, born in Cairo, Egypt. She started her career in films as a stand-in for Rita Hayworth, and became a popular singer in Paris with such songs as ‘La Madone des Midinettes’ (with ‘Bambino’) in 1956 and a sort of Eastern twist ‘Et gratte sur ta mandoline’. The vogue was for southern accents (Dario Moreno, Gloria Lasso, Luis Mariano), and with her quite deep voice she became the Egéria of ‘gay-Paris’. She committed suicide in 1987. |
