| Fabulist, born in Valencia, E Spain. He belonged to a famous Valencian family which included a printer and the professor of Greek at Valencia University. His Fabulario de quentos antiguos y nuevos (c.1613) included 57 stories and fables, many of them translated from Phaedrus, Aesop, and Italian sources. The whole was edited by M Menéndez y Pelayo in his Orígenes de la novela. Volumes 4 and 8 of the stories appear in F C Saínz de Robles's compendium, Cuentos viejos de la vieja España (1949). |
