| Scholar, born in Verona, Veneto, NE Italy. A member of the Arcadia, in 1710 he co-founded the Giornale de' letterati d'Italia, which played an important part in the renewal of Italian culture. He also advocated theatre reform, writing an influential tragedy, Merope (1713), and editing Teatro italiano (1723–8). He also wrote about important contemporary issues in Della scienza chiamata cavalleresca (1710), and on history in Verona illustrata (1732). |
