| Carthaginian general, son-in-law of Hamilcar, whom he succeeded as commander in Spain in 229 BC. He extended the Carthaginian empire in Spain to the boundary of the R Ebro, using diplomatic negotiations with the Romans rather than military force, and founded Cartagena. He was murdered by a Celtic slave, and succeeded by Hannibal. |
