| biography:
| Ice hockey player, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, C Canada. One of the game's greatest goaltenders, he started his career with the Detroit Red Wings in 1950, and later played for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers. His 103 shutouts are a National Hockey League record. He appeared in 971 games (1950–70), a record for a goaltender. He was largely responsible for the crouched stance subsequently adopted by other goaltenders. |
