| biography:
| Satirist and playwright, born in Paris, France. In his youth he fought more than a thousand duels, mostly on account of his extremely large nose. His works include satirical accounts of visits to the Moon and Sun, Histoire comique des états et empires de la lune and ... du soleil, published posthumously in 1656 and 1662, which suggested ‘Gulliver’ to Swift. His life was the subject of the play by Edmond Rostand (1897). |
