| biography:
| Biblical character, the wife and half-sister of Abraham, who is portrayed (Gen 12–23) as having accompanied him from Ur to Canaan. On account of her beauty, she posed as Abraham's sister before Pharaoh in Egypt and Abimelech in Gerar, since their desire for her might have endangered her husband's life. Long barren, she is said to have eventually given birth to Isaac in her old age as God promised. She is said to have died at age 127 in Kiriath-arba. |
