| Compiler of travel books, born in Thaxted, Essex, SE England, UK. He studied at Cambridge, then became vicar of Eastwood (1604) and rector of St Martin's, Ludgate (1614). His great works were Purchas his Pilgrimage, or Relations of the World in all Ages (1613) and Hakluytus Posthumus, or Purchas his Pilgrimes (1625), based on the papers of Hakluyt and archives of the East India Company. |
