| Painter, born in Windham, Connecticut, USA. A portrait painter active in Hartford, CT (c.1799), he became an itinerant artist. He studied with Benjamin West and John Singleton Copley in London (1806–8), and then settled in New York City (1809). After 1820 he was the painting partner of William Jewett. |
