| biography:
| Cultural anthropologist, born in New York City, New York, USA. She studied at Barnard College (1943) and Columbia University (1957 PhD), and taught at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles before joining the Harvard faculty (1981). She served as dean of Harvard's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (1985–9). Among her published works are Power and Property in Peru (1958) and Social Facts and Fabrications (1986). |
