| Poet, born in Iran. He studied at Baghdad, travelled much, and was taken prisoner by the Crusaders near Jerusalem, but was ransomed by a merchant of Aleppo, who gave him his daughter in marriage. The catalogue of his works comprises 22 different kinds of writings in prose and verse. The most celebrated are a series of moral and religious works, Gulistan (Rose Garden), Bostan (Orchard Garden), and Pend-Nameh (Book of Instructions). |
