| Novelist and writer of children's literature, born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA. He was an illustrator for many years before becoming a writer. The Mouse and His Child (1967) is regarded as a modern children's classic. He became known as a novelist with Turtle Diary (1975), later books including Riddley Walker (1980) and The Medusa Frequency (1987). He has also produced some lively picture-books for children, many illustrated by Quentin Blake, such as Trouble on Thunder Mountain (2000). |
