| biography:
| Physicist, born in Munich, SE Germany. He discovered the recoil-free adsorption and subsequent re-emission of gamma rays by matter - the Mössbauer effect, for which he shared the 1961 Nobel Prize for Physics. He became professor of experimental physics at the Technische Hochschule, Munich, (1965–71), then directed the Institut Max von Laue/Paul Langevin at Grenoble (1972–7), before returning to Munich. |
