| Composer, born in Well, Minnesota, USA. After studies with Nadia Boulanger in Paris and at Harvard, he began a teaching career while continuing studies with Roger Sessions and with Alban Berg in Europe. He taught at the University of Michigan (from 1948). His style showed a wide variety of influences from Neoclassicism to 12-tone, while remaining individual. |
