| biography:
| Singer, born in Kentucky, USA. She joined Tony Pastor's orchestra in 1945, singing duets with her younger sister, Betty. In 1950, she recorded a dialect song, ‘Come On-a My House’ and became a pop star, following it with a string of hits including ‘Hey There’ (1951) and ‘This Ole House’ (1952). In 1954 she co-starred in the movie White Christmas. Personal problems in the aftermath of divorce from actor Jose Ferrer silenced her for almost 20 years, but she began appearing in nostalgia shows in the 1970s, and to record regularly for the Concord label. |
