| Composer of popular music, born in New York City, USA. During World War 1 he worked as a chief stenographer. He became a prolific song writer during the 1920s, his many hits including ‘It's Only a Paper Moon’, ‘Me and My Shadow’, and ‘Without a Song’. He produced the musical Carmen Jones (1943) and several other stage shows, and became known for his city night-spots, notably Billy Rose's Music Hall. |
