| biography:
| Poet, born in Cardiff, S Wales, UK. He studied at the University of Wales, was ordained in 1936, and became a rector in the Church of Wales (1942–78). He published his first volume, The Stones of the Field in 1946, and came to attention outside Wales with Song at the Year's Turning (1955). Selected Poems, 1946–68 appeared in 1973. His work deals with pastoral themes and the nature of God, coupled with an intense love of Wales and its people, evoked by nature imagery. Later Poems, 1972–1982 appeared in 1983, and subsequent volumes include The Echoes Return Slow (1988), Counterpoint (1990), and No Truth with the Furies (1995). His Autobiographies was published in 1997. |
