| Conductor, composer, and pianist, born in London, UK. He toured with Nellie Melba, conducted the New Symphony Orchestra, notably in Elgar, Strauss, and Tchaikovsky, and was principal of the Guildhall School of Music (1910–37). He wrote many songs, including ‘Down in the Forest Something Stirred’. He was knighted in 1922. |
