| British writer, playwright, and broadcaster, born in Karachi, SE Pakistan (formerly India). He studied at Oxford, and was an announcer on Radio Hong Kong while there on National Service (1956–7). He appeared in the BBC programme That Was the Week that Was (1962–3), presented The Late Show (1978), and has narrated on many documentaries. His non-fiction work includes The Complete Murders of the Black Museum (1995). He has also written several plays for stage, radio, and television, but is most widely known for his role as a newscaster with ITN (1965–77) and TV-AM (1985–9). |
