| biography:
| Geographer, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He co-wrote a major text on the spatial organization tradition in geography (1971), and was editor of a comparative atlas of US metropolitan regions (1976). He was appointed director of the Geography and Regional Science Program at the National Science Foundation (1984–8) and became executive director of the Association of American Geographers (from 1990). |
