| biography:
| Painter, born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He was a sailor (1951–5) and travelled extensively. Following army service, he went to Oxford, where he studied art, and in 1960 entered the Royal College of Art, London. An intellectual Pop artist, his oil paintings and pastels demonstrate a mastery of figure drawing, while his economic use of line and the flattened colour recall Oriental art. |
