| German lawyer and politician, born in Celle, NC Germany. He joined the Nationalsozialistiche Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP) in 1925, rose to become secretary of state (Staatssekretär) in the Prussian Ministry of Justice (1933–4), served in the Reichsjustizministerium (1934–42), and became president of the Volksgerichtshof (1942). He was one of the most radical proponents of the judicial terror under the Nazis (Blutrichter). |
