He built up his reputation as a comedian in the famous ‘Aldwych farces’, such as Thark, Plunder, Rookery Nook, and Cuckoo in the Nest, cast invariably in ‘henpecked little man’ parts in which his ultimate ‘debagging’ became proverbial. He also featured in many other stage comedies and films, including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1963). |
