| Florentine conspirator, born in Florence, NC Italy. A businessman in London, in 1570 he organized a Roman Catholic plot, supported by Spain, to marry Mary, Queen of Scots, to Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk, and overthrow Elizabeth I. The plot was discovered when an emissary was seized, but Ridolfo was abroad at the time, and returned to Italy, where he became a senator. |
