| Theologian, and founder of the Sorbonne, born in Sorbon, N France. He studied in Reims and Paris, and in 1251 was appointed canon of Cambria. In 1258 he became canon of Paris and chaplain to the court, thus acting as confessor to Louis IX. He founded the Maison de Sorbonne in 1259, a theological college for the poor, which has since become one of the most prestigious colleges of the University of Paris. |
