| Geographer, born in New York City, New York, USA. He taught at the graduate school at Clark University (1962–88), and in 1986 became director of the Brown University World Hunger Programme. His particular interests are reflected in the titles of the books that he co-wrote, including The Environment as Hazard (1978), Climate Impact Assessment (1985), Perilous Progress (1985), and Hunger in History (1989). |
