| Geographer, born in Columbus, Ohio, USA. A faculty member of the University of Chicago (1919–57), he made nine extended field trips to Latin America. These provided the basis for his major book, Latin America: Countrysides and United Regions (1942), and his keen interest in field study is also revealed in Field Study in American Geography (1959). |
