| Radiologist and inventor, born in New York City, New York, USA. He held a variety of research posts in government and academia before becoming a professor of radiology at the Georgetown University Medical Centre in 1970. His pioneering work in the use of computers in medicine included the invention of the CT diagnostic X-ray scanner. The device made medical imaging and three-dimensional reconstructions possible, and led to improvements in radiation therapy for cancer patients. |
