| biography:
| Ballet dancer and choreographer, born in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. In 1965 he joined the Royal Ballet School, going on to become one of the founding members of London Contemporary Dance Theatre. He spent 12 years with that company as dancer and choreographer. Early work includes Still Life (1975), Scriabin Preludes and Studies (1978), and Troy Game (1974), arguably his best work. He was made artistic director of Ballet Rambert (1981–6), then began working as a freelance choreographer. He later joined the Gothenburg Ballet as artistic director (1991–6). |
