| biography:
| Art historian, born in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. He studied at Wesleyan University (1952 BA), Paris (1951–2), Yale (1954 MA; 1957 PhD), and on fellowships in England, Paris, and New Haven, CT. He worked in a variety of museums in Europe and America, arranging exhibitions and producing catalogues. He also taught at Yale (1954–68), his specialty being 19th-c and 20th-c French art. |
