| German politician, born in Niederbreidenbach, W Germany. He joined the Nationalsozialistiche Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NDSAP) in 1924 and was promoted to Gauleiter in the Rheinland (1925). A member of the Landtag in Prussia (1928) and member of the Reichstag (1930), he succeeded Gregor Strasser as chief of staff of the Politische Organisation of the NDSAP, and was Reichsorganisator in 1934. Following unification of the trade unions in 1933 he became leader of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF). He stood trial at Nuremberg in 1945 and committed suicide. |
