| Clergyman, probably born in London, UK. He studied at Edinburgh University, spent some years in France, and was ordained in 1641, signing the Covenant two years later. In 1653 he was appointed Principal of Edinburgh University. Soon after the Restoration he was made one of Charles II's new Scottish bishops, and in 1669 he became Archbishop of Glasgow. |
