| Poet, born in London, UK. He studied at Cambridge, was ordained in 1623, and worked in Devon, until deprived of his living as a royalist in 1647. His writing, both secular and religious, is mainly collected in Hesperides (1648), and includes such well-known lyrics as ‘Cherry ripe’. He resumed his living after the Restoration. |
